36 1.9.3 IATA - Restrictions on packing lithium batteries with other dangerous goods Restrictions apply to the shipment of: - lithium metal batteries UN 3090, PI 968, Section IA and IB - lithium ion batteries UN 3480, PI 965, Section IA and IB - sodium ion batteries UN 3551, PI 976 Cells and batteries must not be packed in the same outer packaging with dangerous goods classified in: • Class 1 (explosives) other than Division 1.4S, • Division 2.1 (flammable gases), • Class 3 (flammable liquids), • Division 4.1 (flammable solids) or • Division 5.1 (oxidizers); Packages containing cells or batteries must not be placed in an overpack with packages containing dangerous goods classified in: • Class 1 (explosives) other than Division 1.4S, • Division 2.1 (flammable gases), • Class 3 (flammable liquids), • Division 4.1 (flammable solids) or • Division 5.1 (oxidizers) 1.9.4 IATA - Packages in overpack Provision applicable to the shipment of: - lithium metal cells and batteries UN 3091: - packed with equipment PI 969 Section II - contained in equipment PI 970 Section II - lithium ion cells and batteries UN 3481, - packed with equipment PI 966 Section II - contained in equipment PI 967 Section II - sodium ion cells and batteries UN 3552, - packed with equipment PI 977 Section II - contained in equipment PI 978 Section II Individual packages each complying with the requirements of Section II may be placed in an overpack. The overpack may also contain packages of dangerous goods or goods not subject to these Regulations provided that the packages do not contain substances which might react dangerously with each other. When packages are placed in an overpack the packages must be secured within the overpack, the intended function of each package must not be impaired by the overpack and the overpack must be m rked with the word “Overpack” in lettering at least 12 mm high a d durably and legibly marked with the battery mark unless the marks representative of those on the package(s) inside the overpack are visible.
