Prerequisite • Batteries must meet the General Requirements of § 1.3 in particular the test requirements Specific Requirements • Each battery incorporates a safety venting device or is designed to preclude a violent rupture under normal conditions of car riage; • Each battery is equipped with an effective means of preventing external short circuits; • Equipment must be equipped with an effective means of preventing accidental activation; • Each battery containing cells or series of cells connected in parallel must be equipped with an effective means, as necessary, to prevent dangerous reverse current flow (e.g. diodes, fuses). • Batteries manufactured after 31 December 2011 must be marked with the Wh rating on the outside case. NOTE: For carriage in a transport chain including air carriage, these devices, when active, shall meet defined standards for electromagnetic radiation to ensure that the operation of the devices does not interfere with aircraft systems.
